Billy boy "couldn't get over the fact that there was no difference between Sylvia's restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City. I mean, it was exactly the same, even though it's run by blacks, primarily black patronship." O'Reilly added: "There wasn't one person in Sylvia's who was screaming, 'M-Fer, I want more iced tea.' "

Every one of George's little store fronts on the internet, have the same smell of subterfuge, bastardization of semantics, and unconsciousness....
excellent reporting detective O'Reilly! (and good comment by Kreegath above)
Is he a racist? Sure, he has shown himself to be one on many occasions, this is simply one more example of how far he has his head up his ass.
A seemingly prejudiced old man realizes one of his prejudices is unfounded and shares his revelation on air in hopes of helping to shoot down the preconception in others. Then, he gets purposely misinterpreted and attacked for mentioning the prejudice and how it was wrong, how will that help do anything but create animosity and even more intolerance?
Now I hope I don't get "purposely misinterpreted", but I'm really surprised when ANY white person can actually dance, or doesn't buy clothes from L.L. Bean, or aren't secretly racist. It's also surprising to me that white folks don't spontaneously form lynch mobs when I walk through their neighborhoods, or rush out to bring their children indoors and then call the cops.
For saying this to the world I deserve respect, not derision, because I am sharing my ridiculous preconceptions with others. Someone give me a Nobel prize already.
You are forgetting that this site is fueled by leftist hatred and that their members get to make, change, break or ignore the rules as they see fit.
Redsky,

Um, yeah. Good thing there's not an ounce of right-wing hatred in you.
In fairness, a full 17.2% of our energy here comes from the steam we generate by burning bibles and copies of the U.S. constitution. We also gather about 9% from the energy released when we break up heterosexual marriages--a process we call "marital fission."

I thought it was the Republican Righties that did that. You know, with the whole "undeclared war" they're having a hootin', hollarin' old time with over there.
BTW, I vote libertarian.
you'd be the first i recall meeting, that used the term "leftist".
i am a libertarian. socially liberal, fiscally conservative.
so, rotty, what does the defending of pushy, obnoxious racists have to do with libertarianism?
oh a btw i dont think what bill o reilly said was that wrong it was ignorant. (how can you give opinions about the world on a "news" organization and be so detached from reality) ???
What does the dislike of pushy, obnoxious canadians have to do with the right?
BTW, I vote libertarian.
What does the dislike of rap-bumping, fried-chicken-lovin' black people have to do with racism?
BTW, I drink malt liquor
Hmmm...kinda makes you think...
When I go to a restaurant in a primarily Indian neighbourhood (even if it's not an "Indian restaurant") all sorts of things are different - the tables, the waiters, the course of the meal, the music, the atmosphere. Obviously the food. It's not shocking that different cultural and ethnic groups routinely like things different ways and this shows up in how a restaurant operates.
I don't think it's horribly racist to imagine that black people might like certain things different in a restaurant in a black neighborhood patronized primarily by black people. In fact, I think it'd be a bit racist to go into a black restaurant expecting them to run everything exactly the same.
Honestly, I think it is a bit interesting and surprising that there wasn't differences that a guy like Bill would have noticed.
And sure, this is giving Bill the benefit of some doubt, but watching his remarks a few times this does even seem to be the sense he's trying to get at. That said, he should be smart enough to know how this is going to sound and not say it.
Yeah sure, it was a statement that revealed the way O'Reilly sees black people, but it was more than that. In his own way, he was talking about how he didn't see the stereotypes that his mind was conditioned to expect. It was painful to hear those things said but it was also a chance for a more open conversation about racism because it was a searingly honest appraisal of Bill-O's beliefs.
While I would have advocated for all the criticism and condemnation in the world when I first saw this, I can see now how that is just a reactionary and defensive position to take. And, ultimately, a response such as that is in no way productive or enlightening. To really tackle an issue as large as race in America is, you have to actively engage with it and talk about it.
The network he works for is owned by a Rupert, the same ilk as a Turner, the same puppets who work for the common good of the herders-those who would that all media be controlled and manipulated for their personal gain-Their effectiveness is unquestionable.....look at this meaningless thread...
Racism is a goddamn bitch for some folks, and dualistic fools that most are, they can't seem to stop playing the either-or game they are trained so effectively for....diversion, all.
How about, "Fuck these morons!" get em all off the air, they insult and stupefy-the FCC should be utterly annihilated, and humans should be instructed on how to use their brains for crissakes...how to derive meaning from the printed or spoken word, beyond the simplistic exercise in believing based on mere words......
