>> ^ReverendTed: Have you seen Coraline? I thought the 3D there was subtle, yet effective.
As much as I wanted to like that movie, it violated the 3D abuse rule within the first 5 seconds of the movie by poking that needle through the fabric towards the viewer. It was not a bad movie overall, but they seemed to abuse the effect compared to Up. I also forgot to mention I saw Toy Story 1&2 re-release in 3D and both of these were fine as well.
Pixar as usual focuses more on story and depth than worrying about effects and technical aspects. *shrug* But I'm probably the minority here in that view.
Well at least know I know whos ass to kick in the afterlife for all those times I filled up my screen with a gap down the middle just waiting for the motherfucking stick.
I think this sequence is one of the quickest happy to sad transitions ever... hell barely 10 minutes into the movie you feel pretty bummed after this.
Also, the only good 3D movie made so far to me. None of that deliberate "HEY! Lets point something at the camera!" crap you see in every other 3D film lately. (If you were unlucky enough to see say, Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D like I was, you know what I'm talking about)
They used to put these in the lightbox on some pinball machines... I think it was a half-silvered mirror in front and a full mirror behind it to create the effect.
I saw a similar attempt (I forget where the video is) at modeling the sound of water using computer simulation, he was speaking about how long it takes to do the simulation in a computer.
Hint: It's EXTREMELY complex because they are modeling soundwaves emitted very accurately and the reflections off of surfaces. Your average quad core would cry for mum over this kind of thing.
I gave my thanks I was out of the country this year when this was all going on.
"WE GOT IT WE GOT IT WE GOT IT". Oh please, over about $10 in savings compared to the rest of the year. Black Friday sales are hardly sales and the only stuff thats discounted is like the title says... cheap junk.
I've been in the same job now for the past decade, although I have a hard time seeing myself for another decade. I voted for the 2nd option since I'm rarely challenged at work these days and its getting downright boring at times.
But hey, I get a total of a months worth of time off every year just from breaks/holidays not to mention what I can take on top of that. I can't complain too much.
This guy seems to make a living off of useless how-tos that hardly tell you how-to regardless.
Whats even worse is he did this "cheap" laser pointer trick before and was called out on it over how incredibly dangerous this is for others... yet now he does it again? Nearly 2 million views on YouTube like all of his other shit? Fuck me...
Oh yeah, not only will this laser blind you, but has the potential to blind others not even looking into the beam. Stray reflections from a 50mw or greater laser (what you would need to accomplish fire) are enough to also cause either temporary or permanent eye damage. That is, indirectly looking at the laser. Like his last laser video, no warning about danger as usual.
How people think this guy is a clever engineer makes me sick.

*sigh* I unfortunately agree. This is coming from the same company that now disowns who actually invented the microprocessor because the 70s were inconvenient for them. Hell they used an actor in the "Inventor of USB" ads? I can only imagine now that all those people at the end are all actors and never even stepped foot inside Intel headquarters and have AMD processors on their home computers
I don't exactly like her, but she at least knows how to keep herself in the news. This woman abandoned her post and yet is managing to pull off a successful book tour as well as having her name mentioned in headlines on a daily basis. (Most of the major news sites over the past week have had her name at least once in the top stories, daily) It's hard to even buy this kind of publicity.
Unfortunately she has about 6,124,789 miles to go before I would ever vote for her, though.
After watching far too many episodes of Kitchen Nightmares I think that them worrying over a $16 will now be the least of this pubs concern. They should have just comped the tip after taking the bill and now they will likely lose far more in negative publicity.
So you take their money anyways and THEN call the police? Sorry, dick move on their part. By the way, I've worked for small business before and I know how it is. You win customers by providing good service, and lose customers by providing shit service. Simple, end of story.
Hell, I once had a dining experience that would make Mr. Pink want to shoot up the entire resturant and without me asking the manager not only comped the meal but also offered free desserts on top of it. This is how you get people to keep coming back despite the fact you just lost money in the short term.
In this test it is quite effective in preventing penetration and subsequent collapse of the wall. the structural integrity would have been compromised of course, but it looks to me like anyone inside a structure so protected would be able to survive and get out to safety.
Err wait... there was no load on the top of that wall. It seems to me this wallpaper might stop bomb fragments but won't exactly prevent the wall from collapsing under the weight above it. Cool idea, but I have a hard time seeing how this would actually work.
(Perhaps a better demo is if they made a small shack with the stuff, set off an actual bomb in it rather than use a wrecking ball. Why call it bomb proof wallpaper when you did'nt even use a bomb?)

I think mashed potatoes were substituted for ice cream and the "syrup" was motor oil so it could be photographed properly.
